Concerts & Events
St John’s Co-Cathedral is a religious, cultural, and national icon of the Maltese Islands, a much sought-after Cathedral, which is also used as a location for various events. St John’s Co-Cathedral is a yearly host for liturgical celebrations, sacred concerts, choir festivals, graduations, and important national events.
The Main Nave
The barrel-vaulted ceiling painted by Mattia Preti spreads through the main chamber of the Co-Cathedral. The Mascioni organ built in the 1960s is located behind the main altar and used in many concerts held at the Co-Cathedral.
The Oratory
The Oratory of The Decollato currently holds the painting of Caravaggio, The Beheading of St John the Baptist – the largest and only signed work by the artist. Nevertheless, the Oratory sets an intimate setting for smaller-scale concerts – which also holds one of the ornate organs built in the sixteenth century.
